Beneficial Nematodes
LAWN GUARDIAN INFORMATION
1. Soil temperature needs to be 13 degrees C (57 degrees F) for the
nematodes to become active in the water channels in the soil, in order
to reach the grubs. Soil must be wet to below the level of the grubs,
otherwise the nematodes cannot reach and infest the grubs.
2. WATER, WATER, WATER, WATER !!! The more water the better!!
3. If Lawn Guardian is applied into colder soil and watered well into
the soil so that the sun (ultra violet), and dryness does not kill them
- they will – remain inactive in the soil until the ground warms up.
At that time, they will become active and infest the grubs. They
will NOT die as long as they are watered into the soil.
4. Lawn Guardian for grubs can be applied up to mid-June, after this
time most grubs are pupating and hatching into beetles that fly - laying
eggs anywhere, that hatch into grubs in July and each August. If
you have grubs during the summer, it is because June Beetle larvae have
a 2-year life cycle in the soil. These can be treated anytime when
the soil is warm enough.
5. Fall grub treatment can be done as soon as new grubs are seen later
in the summer. The sooner you treat - the less damage to your lawn!
6. Fall treatments can be done until the soil temperature goes below
13 degrees C (57 degrees F). This is dependant on the weather!
7. You may have the retreat in the fall - check the soil for grubs.
8. During drought conditions tell your customers to take a soil sample
to see how deep the soil is wet. Remember, the soil must be wet to
below the level of the grubs.
9. Lawn Guardian infests over 250 pest larvae in the soil - excellent
for iris borer, carrot and onion maggots, flea beetles, codling moth, etc.

Mixing Instructions: Rinse sponge
into a concentrate (a pail of water 1-5 gal). They will gradually
settle to the bottom of "still" water, be sure to stir this solution as
it is applied. You may use an injector system or dilute them with more
water and use a pump sprayer or use a hose end sprayer. If using
a hose end sprayer be sure to make enough concentrate to treat the designated
area. It is best to release the nematodes in the evening to prevent
UV damage. A good watering or rainfall after they have been applied
will help ensure that they have been carried into the soil.
